Adventures in the outdoors

Author: Susan Sheppard

Hello! I grew up in Newfoundland and after graduating university, moved to Ontario with my future hubby, and searched for that coveted career. After some part time jobs, I headed back to Newfoundland to complete my teaching degree and since then have been teaching science, math and outdoor education here in Ontario. I love the outdoors, I love teaching, and I am glad to have been able to combine both those things into my life. We have done lots of traveling around Canada and the Upper Eastern States, and I am looking forward to sharing my love for adventure with you. I have been blogging since 2010, but it has been very off and on. I am determined to share what I know, what I have learned, in hopes that I will inspire someone to get out there and explore. I know my son, who was born in 2008, has been having lots of fun with us and my wish is that he will also be able to share his experiences one day. Thank you for taking the time to read my blog.

Adventure Algonquin?!

Since we had no camping was booked, we decided to make a day trip to Algonquin Provincial Park to do some canoeing.

Mother and Son Trip

With  few days left before we head out on our big adventure, I took advantage of this time to take my son on an overnight canoe trip.  It had to be close, short, and minimal to easy portaging and canoeing.  This would be his first time canoeing in the bow of our canoe, and my first time taking him on a canoe trip alone.

What I Packed in my 60L Barrel for My Solo Trip

I had just completed a multi-day solo canoe trip in Kawartha Highlands Provincial Park, and I decided to try something a little different. Actually there were a few things different on this trip for me.  Firstly I was using a solo Swift Keewaydin 15 ft canoe, then I decided I would try to get all my gear into our 60L barrel.
